CC Holiday Survival Guide, Part III – At Home
CC Holiday Survival Guide, Part III – At Home
*For home, I find that I have the greatest success if I stay with a common decorating scheme. Sort through your stored holiday decorations and place your favorite pieces to the side. Then return all the other decorations to the storage boxes and take a deep breath.
By that I mean step back for a moment and focus on this handful of selected decorations then determine the common thread. What are your favorite looks this year? Are you feeling nostalgic with silver sparkle ornaments and a dusting of snow or are you in the mood for decorations that are bright and rich in color and shine?
Decide whether you are traditional and elegant, dramatic and deep hues, or natural and subtle? Build your perfect look by adding other things you have in your home or storage that compliment this look. Group it all together. For example if its shimmering silver you prefer, pull out your silver trays, mercury glass vases, and etched vintage crystal wine or cordial glasses and arrange on your cleared entry table or buffet. Buy some silver and white spray and transform some pine cones or twigs to gilded or snowy natural accessories. You can also silver leaf some old artificial fruit or clip on birds to add to your grouping. To finish the vignette, clip branches of fresh greenery from your trees and shrubs and tie together with a silver ribbon.
Also if you will watch the weekly specials at Super stores like Wal-Mart, Home Depot and Kroger, you can find inexpensive smaller pots of forced blooming paper whites, amaryllis or Christmas. They will add to your Christmas décor and also provide a fresh aroma to your room.
